The Murchison & Lyell Fire Team provided fire protection to a municipally-unorganized area around the community of Madawaska. The organization was formed in the late 1970s, and like most fire teams, apparatus and equipment was initially provided by the Ontario Fire Marshal's Office. In 1998, the area served by the fire team became part of the newly-created Township of South Algonquin, and the fire team itself part of the South Algonquin Township Fire Department.
