Totems are shaman-specific relics. Relics replace ranged weapons for death knights, druids, paladins, and shamans, and typically give significant bonuses to a single spell rather than a general stat bonus of ranged weapons. Note: Starting with 3.0.2, all Relic totems have a note saying "Counts as an Air, Earth, Fire and Water totem." This means you can safely deposit the items that were required to cast your totems (as in, the spells, the items you got from quests) in your bank, freeing up 4 inventory slots.
