  • Gorta was a Dopterian businessman. He had a personal code of conduct. In 2370, he unwisely entered into a mining operation with the Duras sisters Lursa and B'Etor on Kalla III, a planet in Pakled space. They managed to mine 10,000 kilograms of magnesite ore. Lursa and B'Etor then betrayed Gorta, took the ore and left him stranded on Kalla with nothing. He was later picked up by the USS Enterprise-D. (TNG: "Firstborn" ) Gorta was played by actor Colin Mitchell. The character is referred to as being Ferengi twice in the script, which was due to the character intended to be Ferengi until the writers decided to feature Armin Shimerman as Quark in the episode. The writers decided on Gorta being a Dopterian in reference to a line spoken by Odo in DS9: "The Forsaken" in which the Dopterians were mentioned to be "distant relatives" of the Ferengi. (Star Trek: The Next Generation Companion)
