abstract
  • Orcs are monsters in Might and Magic II: Gates to Another World. They commonly appear in early game locations such as Middlegate, and may be found in very large groups in certain other locations; two armies of 250 orcs appear in the cavern in the Forbidden Forest, another group of 250 orcs can be found at an "orcon convention" in area B2, and 100 orcs are found in the company of Bozorc the orc. Orcs can be formidable opponents against weak parties around the start of the game, but are generally trivial for stronger parties to defeat. In versions of the game which use 'rows' in battles where some enemies and characters can be obstructed by others, orcs are able to shoot (from the back row of their group) at characters in the back row of the player's party. In such versions they may also be able to call for friends to join the battle; this appears to double the number of orcs that have not yet come into the party's view, which in effect can almost double the length of certain battles such as the one against Bozorc and his gang. Orcs are notorious in CRON for their primitiveness and lack of intelligence, being the subject of ridicule in a form of ethnic jokes known as "orc jokes". Orc jokes are often featured as jokes of the day told by jesters in the castles of the land. Both Bozorc's lair and the cavern in the Forbidden Forest contain signs that forbid orc jokes.
