Xanatos tried to assassinate Qui-Gon, but the attempt was foiled by the rejected padawan Obi-Wan. After the attempt was over, Kenobi became the apprentice of Qui-Gon, resulting in Qui-Gon earning a seat on the council next to his master. Kenobi would grow up to be a Jedi Knight and would still accompany Qui-Gon on missions, such as the Invasion of Naboo.
