The NetHack General Public License allows anyone to create a variant, provided that they use the same license. Then, features from that variant may be reused in vanilla NetHack (under a small chance) or in another variant! A variant typically contains many more changes to the game than a patch. A variant is either distributed as a very large patch against vanilla NetHack, or as a separate source code distribution.

  • A variant is any toy in a line that is a different version of another, pre-existing toy in that line. They tend to be rare, and usually include a different accessory or have a different paint job than the original. Again, like chase figures, these can either be a blessing or a curse for a collector. Ask yourself if owning both the blue guy and the red guy is important. Of course, if you're a collector, you've already answered that question.
  • A variant is "[o]ne of two or more code symbols having the same plain text equivalent.
  • The Variant is a light scouting craft in the employ of Novus.
  • A Variant is a virus or worm based on an earlier virus or worm with one or more minor changes. A virus or worm that gains notoriety may eventually have hundreds of variants.
  • Variant (バリアント Barianto?) is a type of enemy from Mega Man Zero 4. They are Dr. Weil's new foot soldiers, replacing the Pantheons after the events of Mega Man Zero 3. They are similar to Pantheons in design, but there are only 4 types of Variants while there are a wide variety of Pantheons. They are a bit tougher than Pantheons that even one saber slash cannot defeat them.
  • "Variant" or variation refers to an add-on that is usually small and can easily be added to expansions and scenarios. They alter the way the game is played but not significantly. Several variants can be combined to drastically alter game play.
  • A Variant is a data type that can represent any data type, including nil.
  • Every species has three color variants which must be discovered through various means. Feeding a piñata certain items will change their color, sometimes they have to eat more than one item to change colors. For example, if you feed a Turnip to a Whirlm, it changes color to a purple Whirlm, but you have to feed a Daisy and a Bluebell to a Mousemallow for it to change to a white Mousemallow. If you change the color of a piñata once you can't change it again. So to get all 3 of the variants you have to have 3 separate pinatas to change each to a different variant. Feed a Flutterscotch:
  • During Character Creation, you are given the option of selecting one of three variants after you have selected your race (if all three are unlocked). Variants alter your character's initial appearance, but do not change gameplay significantly. __NOEDITSECTION__
  • That which varies is known as a variant. Changes in the manufacturing process, design adjustments, and other alterations often lead to Transformers toys which differ somehow from other examples of the same toy. Variants may also occur with packaging or other product besides toys. Collectors consider the term to have a specific sense that distinguishes a variant from an error. A variant is something that they might want; an error is something they don't. This is not very helpful as a definition, unfortunately.

  • That which varies is known as a variant. Changes in the manufacturing process, design adjustments, and other alterations often lead to Transformers toys which differ somehow from other examples of the same toy. Variants may also occur with packaging or other product besides toys. Many collectors enjoy finding variants. It can be fun to discover some difference in two supposedly-identical toys, and some differences are quite major. Some collectors make a hobby of collecting all variants of a particular toy, which can lead to impecunious insanity if this toy is one like Generation One Ultra Magnus. Collectors consider the term to have a specific sense that distinguishes a variant from an error. A variant is something that they might want; an error is something they don't. This is not very helpful as a definition, unfortunately. Generally, however, a variant is an alteration with neutral or positive consequences to the toy that is not an isolated incident, but has been found in some quantity. A variant, furthermore, is almost never an accident, but something the factory added by intent.
  • During Character Creation, you are given the option of selecting one of three variants after you have selected your race (if all three are unlocked). Variants alter your character's initial appearance, but do not change gameplay significantly. Unlocking a race will automatically unlock its first variant for use in Character Creation. The second and third variants of a race unlock when the race's unlock requirements are fulfilled a second and third time, respectively. If a race's unlock requirement can only occur once (for example, you can only discover all Alchemy recipes once per save file), the second and third variants will instead unlock on subsequent deaths regardless of how well the character did. __NOEDITSECTION__

Every time you discover a new variant you will gain four petals of experience. Note however that some variants can reduce the base value of the piñata by a whole lot. For instance, all 3 of the Eaglair and Galagoogoo variations reduce its base value of 4500 chocolate coins down to a mere 100. the variants of a pinata does not change romance. so you can romance a orange whirlm with a puple whirlm. To make a Twingersnap turn pink feed it a bottle of medicine. Feed a Flutterscotch: * 1 Poppy: Red * 1 Bird of Paradise: Orange * 1 Buttercup: Yellow * 1 Watercress: Green * 1 Bluebell: Blue * 1 Thistle: Purple * 1 Water Lily: Pink * 1 Bullrush: Brown * 1 Tulip: Black
