Translation, in plate tectonics is where two plates slide horizontally past each other. On these conservative boundaries, no land is lost or gained, and earthquakes are common (but not volcanoes.) A boundary of this type is found on the East coast of the USA. Often here, the plates move in the same direction just one moves faster than the other.
