He enjoyed bickering with and making fun of Pikridios Goudeles as the two of them participated in the Videssian embassy to the Arshaum. He served at times as an interpreter between the Videssian party and the Khagan, and fought with the Arshaum army in its campaign through Pardraya and Yezd. He also drilled Gorgidas and Pikridios Goudeles on their swordplay, teaching them the rudiments of the art. He was intolerant in matters of religion, showing unease at trusting the magic of a heathen shaman, but in other ways had more in common with the barbarous Arshaum than with Goudeles or the other bureaucrats of his own state.
