  • Backgrounds is an Occupation normally listed under Art Department. If the credits directly indicate it, then it might also be listed under Sound Department or Visual Effects.
  • Backgrounds are always available in the Penguin Style and Snow and Sports catalogs, and are almost always available in the Costume Trunk. Backgrounds are sometimes also available through parties, such as the backgrounds from the Prize Booth at The Fair. Old backgrounds will usually return to catalogs, but some may not. Mascots also give out special backgrounds, known as autographs, when met.
  • A background is an image of pixels that together form up to become scenery, like a plain or a forest. Good backgrounds are not essential to making a good comic series ('as seen in Angry Nidhiki's Lol with Angry Nidhiki), but they do help to make them more aesthetically pleasing. Many early comics, such as most of Mike's Comics and Season 1 of Dark709's Comics used plain white backgrounds (Mike's Comics did feature colored backgrounds, albeit rarely), and relied on humor more than visuals.
  • They can also be found throughout the island during parties as well, such as the Top Of The Mountain Background from the Mountain Expedition 2017 mini-party.
  • Backgrounds are an aesthetic element of Magic Touch: Wizard for Hire that serve as the background of the game. Initially the player starts with the castle background, but can purchase more with accumulated coins.
  • If you would prefer to have a grey featureless background, click on the picture of your current background on the Backgrounds sub-tab. Your background will be a solid light slate color (#DAE3E5), which was the previous default. In the apps, backgrounds are located under Menu > Customize Avatar (iOS) or Menu > Avatar (Android). Currently, you cannot enable the solid light slate background from the apps.
  • When hostilities threaten after even the most erudite diplomats have failed, assassination is often the only recourse. Long respected for their ability to resolve disputes, either by blade in the night or inexplicable misadventure, an assassin's skills are in high demand amongst all strata of society. Blood is blood, whether it's drawn from a petty dispute or a matter of state.
  • Syntax: +bg/set <#>= +bg/edit <#>=/ +bg/clear <#> +bg/view +bg/view <#> These commands have been put in place to allow you to write a background for your character that will be easy for you and the staff to review. In each syntax, <#> should be replaced with the section number of the background you wish to use. When writing your background, you should number your sections (pages) sequentially from 1 using however many you need. Each section should contain roughly twenty lines (or less) of text.
  • Your character’s background reveals where you came from, how you became an adventurer, and your place in the world. Your fighter might have been a courageous knight or a grizzled soldier. Your wizard could have been a sage or an artisan. Your rogue might have gotten by as a guild thief or commanded audiences as a jester. Choosing a background provides you with important story cues about your character’s identity.
  • Limbo of the Lost is a 2D point-and-click adventure game. It consists of an animated 2D character moving over a 2D background. Most, if not all of these backgrounds appear to have been taken from other commercial games. It is a misapprehension by some that LotL contains realtime 3D art and that the plagiarism in question could be explained in the same way that the Stalker plagiarism scandal was resolved. This is not the case. All of the background in LotL are static images. Thus, all that the artist needed to do to create them from another game's assets was to play the game and take a screenshot, then manipulate that screenshot in Photoshop as necessary.

Some backgrounds contain assets from more than one game. The screenshots below are listed by the game from which the original art appears to have been taken. If a screenshot contains art from more than one source, it is noted.

In each syntax, <#> should be replaced with the section number of the background you wish to use. When writing your background, you should number your sections (pages) sequentially from 1 using however many you need. Each section should contain roughly twenty lines (or less) of text. The second listed syntax works exactly the same as the @edit features of the MUSH (see HELP @EDIT), and the third syntax of the command will completely remove one section of your background. Please be aware that it will not renumber the following sections (for example, if you have written sections 1, 2, and 3-- clearing section 2 will leave you with 1 and 3).
The most important question to ask about your background is what changed? Why did you stop doing whatever your background describes and start adventuring? Where did you get the money to purchase your starting gear, or, if you come from a wealthy background, why don't you have more money? How did you learn the skills of your class? What sets you apart from ordinary people who share your background? The sample backgrounds in this chapter provide both concrete benefits (features, proficiencies, and languages) and roleplaying suggestions.
