Shady Koopas are a more powerful version of the regular Koopa Troopas, having a pale blue shell and light-gray skin (instead of the normal red shell and yellow skin found on normal Koopa Troopas). Their attacks are exactly the same as their regular red counterparts, with the exception of their special Power Shell attack, which can be executed only by these Koopas, even while they are on their backs. Mario encounters only one Shady Koopa outside of battle, a member of the fighting group Shellshock found in the Glitz Pit. Though similar to regular koopas, the Shady Koopas are a significant foe not to be taken lightly.

- Shady Koopas are enemies that appeared in Paper Mario: The Thousand-Year Door. These guys are real shady characters, having a very secret and dangerous attack. These guys, but only when their on their shells, can activate a very powerful attack that damages both Mario and his active partner. This enemy, as stated, can only use this when he's on his shell so Mario shouldn't use just any jump attacks on this one. Mario mush fight some of these guys while participating in the Glitz Pit. More can be found in the Pit of 100 Trials.
- Shady Koopas are blueish and gray colored Koopa Troopas who appear only at the Glitz Pit in Paper Mario: The Thousand-Year Door. When they are flipped on their shell, they can still attack and they do more damage then usual. The more there are the more damage there is. These sorts of Koopas also made an appearance in Mario and Luigi: Bowsers Inside Story, where they challenge Mario and Luigi to a "game" with the Blue Shell. After you beat them, they give you enough Attack Pieces to get the Yoo Who Cannon.
