| - Dale Landers, the drummer in the band "Particle Equation", was the boyfriend of the victim, Sonya Gilbert, in Beckett's first case back after being shot. The security system in Sonya's apartment clearly recorded the two of them entering, and its next activity was just prior to his solo exit. Dale even points a gun at Beckett when she comes to arrest him; a double mistake, as it increases the potential number of charges against him, and heightens every protective instinct the team, and particularly Castle, have. In the interrogation room, Dale is hard pressed to put two consecutive, coherent sentences together, and things look bleak for him. The new head of the 12th Precinct, Captain Victoria Gates, tells Ryan and Esposito to book him, and only a classic Castle swerve, atypically from Beckett this time, has the team looking into the possibility of a third party, hidden away in the apartment throughout the events around the murder. Fingerprints found on the frame of Sonya's bed lead to the arrest and charging of Mitch Yancey, who was with Dale in his band, and with Sonya lots of other times.
