| - While Nubia was a mining planet, it wasn't the most difficult one to make a life on. It was far from a lifestyle of luxury, but at least Dav didn't starve as a kid. From the age of twelve, he worked mini-shifts in the mines. He determined very early in this phase that he didn't want to become a miner, and though he worked as hard as the others, he dedicated his free time to discovering other things he could do. Skilled computer operators and repairmen were always in need, but Dav wasn't interested in that facet of computers. Rather, he was interested in how to subvert systems, but didn't have the time or resources to learn the skills required. He tried his hand at becoming a transport pilot, then mechanic, with only moderate success and little enjoyment in each area; not enough to switch over. Following that were musical instruments, acting - at one of the few theaters on planet, not at the clubs - roles, and various forms of art. It turned out that acting was the only thing he had talent at, and though he didn't enjoy it much he did start taking the occasional lesson. At the age of sixteen, Dav attended a police-sponsored safety seminar. The main reason he attended was because there was an option to get onto a firing range for free. He sat through the seminar, then waited for his turn on the range. He'd never even held a blaster before, but his first shot hid dead center, and his subsequent shots closely surrounded the first. The surprised officer asked if he'd ever trained with blasters, to which Dav replied in the negative and moved down to the next weapon in line. This one happened to be an assault rifle, and while the accuracy wasn't as good as with the handgun, it was still impressive. On and on this happened, with each ranged weapon. It was clear that the boy had a natural affinity with ranged weapons. This opened up a number of other options. There wasn't much game on Nubia, but there were the occasional hunts. He joined one of them, discovering that he did not enjoy it in the slightest. However, with the encouragement and support of several local officers, Dav applied to the local department. The application was sped through, and at the age of seventeen Dav joined the Academy. By the time he graduated, he was one of four people on the planet rated as expert marksman (highest rank) in all ranged weapons and was assigned to a special response unit; he was also trained in the standard techniques of law enforcement, as well as a few martial arts. He entered full service at eighteen years old. As much of the crime that happened on Nubia happened in the later hours, due to the various entertainments scattered on the planet, most of the earlier hours of Dav's workday were filled with desk duty. He used this time to learn to effectively hack. He had a rocky start, but grew into the techniques and thinking pattern. On his off time, he'd rotate between acting lessons and martial arts classes. The Special Response Unit was only called out three times in the first few years of Dav's residency, and only one of those occasions called for him to operate as a sniper. Thanks to his acting lessons, he was selected to serve undercover for nearly half a year, eventually bringing a smuggling gang to justice. The circumstances that prompted Dav's leaving the force were sealed by order of the planetary governor, but it was known that his parents died during the time period sealed. Previously, Dav had been happy and easygoing, but now he was grim and full of anger. The sealed events, however disturbing they might have been, didn't affect Dav's sense of justice, and since he was no longer a part of the planet's police force, the man headed to Bastion, the heart of the Empire. The Empire stood for justice, and Dav could easily see how his skills could be put to use as an Intelligence agent...it was his hope - quiet, muted, but hope nonetheless - that he could do some good for the galaxy from within the Empire.Family
Dav Nirken was born to Tuvlick and Xeciora Nirken, previously Tuvlick Nirken and Xeciora Pluguar. Three years before he was born, the couple moved to Nubia to start a new life. Tuvlick was a career miner, and Xeciora worked in cafeterias, cooking meals for children. Prospects were good on Nubia, and the married couple determined that it would financially benefit them to move there. Dav himself was a surprise, but one that was welcomed with all the couple could offer. Despite their attempts to have a second child, it simply didn't happen. While Tuvlick and Xeciora gave Dav all the time they could, it wasn't much; with him a miner working the daylight hours and her a cook preparing meals for the miners, there was very little time given to Dav. As such, he grew to be very self-dependent. The time period that included Tuvlick's and Xeciora's deaths was sealed shut on record by the planetary governor of the time. However, that period of sealed record also included the death of Dav's girlfriend of the time, one Alyba Chegis. They'd grown up in the same building, were the same age, and went to the same school. For the longest time, they were just friends, but it grew into more than that after a series of bad relationships on both sides. Unknown to anyone else, the two had been seriously discussing marriage, and he had planned to purchase an engagement ring later that week. Their deaths, and the events surrounding them, severely changed Dav. Where he'd only been in and wanted serious relationships, he now moved from relationship to shallow relationship in ways that would have alarmed his friends, had they known.
