Harold put down a new red carpet at 13 Coronation Street in November 1983 and chatted with Hilda Ogden while doing so. The main topic of conversation was the discovery that Stan Ogden was 64 and not 61 as he thought. Harold posited that Stan had been kept back a year at school and his parents had lost track of his age, although he stipulated that it wasn't a slur against Stan's intelligence as the same thing had happened to his own brother. He went on to suggest that if the people he'd met through his work who thought the carpet backing was the finished product were anything to go by, being kept back a year should be more commonplace.
