by Journeyman Many people who follow politics seem to leap out of their skins in overreaction at the mere shadow of any idea that threatens their certitude. They insist on being fed a stream consisting of only news that reassures them that they're in the right. Everyone has a right to their opinion, don't they? Instead of being reasoned attitudes, evolving along with the circumstances, opinions are becoming mere prefabricated arguing points to be hurled with deafening impact at the position (or even the person) of the opponent. __NOEDITSECTION__

  • by Journeyman Many people who follow politics seem to leap out of their skins in overreaction at the mere shadow of any idea that threatens their certitude. The result is the polarized set of conditions, which especially paralyze Washington but also plague the quest for compromise and solutions via political activity anywhere in the world you care to look. Party A brands Party B as pure evil. Party B reciprocates. Reason and objectivity flee the scene along with any constructive solution. The public interest certainly comes in last. Liberals only listen to liberals, conservatives only hear conservatives. Everyone "enjoys" the illusory and false comfort of remaining confirmed and smug, in an echo chamber where only their own echo can be heard. If this makes it seem difficult to figure out who to believe, who we should at least listen to, maybe this simple principle can help. Truth has absolutely no need to browbeat others, belittle the enemy, belabor a point, or to speak in the voice of fear. The truth is inclusive. Any and all people approaching the topic with a fair mind will find something to agree upon in it. Truth never has to "go negative" to win. __NOEDITSECTION__ From The Opinion Wiki, a Wikia wiki.
