The Forgotten Warriors are semi-sentient beings, infected by a virus of their Lord Nuva. The virus is mostly spread by Nuva's power, but can also infect others when a Forgotten Warrior wounds them and the prey comes in direct contact with it. The transformation into a thrall takes longer that way however. In the first few hours the infection doesn't show itself, but after some days black-colored outgrowths are seen around the injection point. Those can even grow even bigger over time, but not necessarily have to. The body of the victim decays over time.

The virus is mostly spread by Nuva's power, but can also infect others when a Forgotten Warrior wounds them and the prey comes in direct contact with it. The transformation into a thrall takes longer that way however. In the first few hours the infection doesn't show itself, but after some days black-colored outgrowths are seen around the injection point. Those can even grow even bigger over time, but not necessarily have to. The body of the victim decays over time. Not every Forgotten Warrior acts the same. While "freshly infected" ones, who aren't older than a few months have the ability to speak, effectively use their weapons and planning their attacks. The longer one of them lives, the more they loose their abilities and eventually become mindless husks just waiting to fulfill Nuva's orders. Every species of the Matoran Universe can be infected and turned into this undead-like stage. However the effects might be different.
