The franchise focuses on Maria (that remain nameless until the second film, an genetic-alternated women and former secret agent who fights against an war between humanity and the omega virus, that transforms people in vampires,. The STAR Corporation acts as the main antagonist in the series, a bio engineering pharmaceutical company responsible for the vampire apocalypse as a result of creating the Omega virus. The films follow franchise protagonist Maria Ripley, portrayed by Jennifer Garner, who was once a security operative working for STAR and is now the ultimate enemy of the corporation. Through her battle with STAR, she eventually meets with the main antagonist, Chairman Ronald Kincaid (Hugo Weaving). Several important characters are included through the franchise such as Sienna Barclay (Ellen Page), Scott Cox (Samuel L. Jackson), Ronald Vanko (Manu Bennett), Chester Briggs (Brad Dourif), Adam Quimby (Andy Serkis) Harold Barclay (Channing Tatum), Johnny K (Eddie Murphy), Dr. Karen Jenson (Alice Braga), Father Frank (Edward James Olmos), Kyle Baxter (Thomas Sangster), Jason Krueger (Tony Todd), Orus (Dustin Hoffman), Donald Blake (Jackie Earle Haley) and The Oracle (Nichelle Nichols). The original film was released in 1999, followed by a long-series of sequels (Omega II: Purge in 2005, Omega III: Evolution in 2008, Omega IV: Genesis in 2010, Omega V: The Matrix in 2013, Omega VII: Reloaded in 2014, Omega: Revolution, Omega: Cracking and Omega: The Final Chapter in 2015. The first film was directed by Julio Campos, and he directed them up until the fifth film, whereupon he handed it to director Dane Brenson. Brenson was criticized for changing the story's premises and themes, so Campos started a new sequel that would 'reboot' the series. This was made in Omega: Crack, where protagonist Maria Ripley travelled back in time to redo everything in hopes of saving Earth from the Vampire apocalypse. With this action, many things change and new things happens, such as instead of Jason become a Cyborg, Kyle is the one who becomes, Johnny K living, Ronald Kincaid dying sooner and Jimmy Barclay killing his father. As a whole, the series has been critically-acclaimed by critics, being the second franchise with most percentage of approval in consensus site, with 90%, 95%, 96%, 82%, 100%, 99%, 100% and 100% respectively.
