In the beginning, it was made up of bands that could be considered many different rock sub-genres, but what they all had in common was that they were stripped down to basic vocals, guitar, bass, and drums, as opposed to the progressive rock of the day. As the music became more and more popular, an entire counterculture built up around the anti-establishment views of some (and in current times, most) punk bands. While the counter-culture shared and still shares many similarities to the radical leftist counterculture of the 60s, it is often much more nihilistic and angry in attitude, and therefore antagonistic towards what remains of that particular counterculture. __ToC__
