The Bohemia Symphony Orchestra arose as a successor of the former Central Bohemia Symphony Orchestra in Poděbrady founded in this spa resort in 1961. The original orchestra was active until the end of the 1980s, most of the time performing subscription concerts throughout Central Bohemia and Prague. After the political changes of 1989 it expanded its activity also to abroad. The first concerts abroad were given in Italy, Britain and Germany already under the name Bohemia Symphony Orchestra Poděbrady.

The present cast of the Bohemia SO consists of experienced musicians from Prague's symphony and opera orchestras and, if needed, can be extended up to about ninety members.
