In his old age, Fleetscut could not run as swiftly, and when he was asked to recruit hares to assist the mountain against assault from Ungatt Trunn's Blue Hordes, Fleetscut was forced to enlist the help of Jukka the Sling and her squirrels with the journey. The two did not get on well as they argued frequently and referred to each other as 'bushtail' and 'longears'.

Eventually, and with the help of Lord Brocktree, Dorothea Duckfontein Dillworthy, and many others, he succeeded at his task. Despite their dislike for each other, Fleetscut and Jukka died together, hand in hand as friends in the cellars of Salamandastron, attempting to repel an assault from a squad of Ungatt Trunn's vermin lead by Drull.
