The 2016–17 South Atlantic cyclone season was the second documented season of South Atlantic cyclones in recorded history. This was the second known "season" of cyclones in the basin, along with the the previous season, and is the only known occurrence of three major hurricanes (Category 3 or higher on the Saffir–Simpson hurricane wind scale) in the South Atlantic. This season is cited as the second most active in the basin's history, behind the previous season, featuring six named storms, five hurricanes, and three major hurricane. An unnamed tropical depression also developed this year.
