Its native range is Africa. It resides in a wide range of habitants, from wetlands, to arid plains, to human settlements. It appears as a stork with black wings, a white breast, and a bare head like a vulture. Like the vulture, it is a scavenger, feeding on carrion, though they also eat insects and small amphibians or mammals. It was first classified scientifically in 1831.
