The Perisphinctes boweni ammonite was named after the English chemist and geologist E. J. Bowen (1898–1980).
Perisphinctes was a large species of Ammonite, featured in the book version of WWD. Like all ammonites it was a cephalopod mollusk that lived in a curved shell. It was theoretically colored in white and red bands. It was eaten by a Liopleurodon.
