Latanun was a Rigellian Chelon serving in Starfleet in the late 24th century. In October, 2385, Latanun was serving as the first officer aboard the USS Tonawanda. Latanun's commanding officer, Captain S'hirethal Verauk, was ordered by then President Pro-Tempore Ishan Anjar to head to the planet Jevalan in the Doltiri system to apprehend the Cardassian physician Ilona Daret and anyone accompanying him, neglecting to inform Latanun until arriving at the planet.
