Station Luntai was purchased from the government of the Northern People's Republic of China, by the East Asian Federation, in February 2010, following the split of the People's Republic of China into two separate nations. After the succession of the Republic of China to the Joint People's Republic of China in 2011, control remained with the East Asian Federation. Luntai is currently the headquarters of the Logistics and Transport Command and the Eastern Air Force, and, as such, is an important part of the Air Forces' transport and supply network. It has also been used in the past as a staging area for Organization of Independent States war games involving the Federation Air Forces. On November 25, 2011, the State Defense Office announced that a strategic asset shift eastward would result in the Logistics and Transport Command and Wide-Area Response Division-Chinese Squadron's relocations to Taiwan. Approximately 5,000 uniformed personnel and 2,250 civilians are employed at the base.
