Mrs Jenny Shipley was born in 1952 in Gore as Jennifer Robson. She was PM for the Nationals from 1997-9, when she was defeated by Labour's Helen Clark. She was a primary school teacher before entering politics. She has also taken an interest in child protection. She entered Parliament in 1987 for Ashburton*, Canterbury, and became a minister in Mr Jim Bolger's govt in 1990, ousting him while he was in bonnie Scotland in 1997. several languages * named for a village in Devon, England
