| - The sai'mrai are the nobility of the Jade Worlds culture, highly trained in etiquette, calligraphy, combat (especially sword combat) and politics. On the whole, they are not elitist: with the right training and image, anyone can be one, no matter who his or her parents are. Most sai'mrai are human; however, some Joyites, including Clan Lord Eddeppak, Admiral Jagheky and Admiral Thormatar are considered sai'mrai. The trend is most prevalent among the Joyite section of the JEAF.

The standard weapons of a human male sai'mrai are the kiai'ta longsword and the makizash short sword. Most women use these swords as well, but the more traditional use a naginata. Joyites frequently use a kind of heavy gladius. It should be noted that many humans use the Joyite swords and vice versa. Some, looking for a middle ground, carry a sabre, and the jiann has become very popular. Whatever the weapon, though, all sai'mrai must show respect for the weapon, for the opponent, and for the arts and techniques of combat.
