The car salesman at an unnamed showroom sold Alan Bradley a Ford in April 1988. Alan had been at the showroom the week before with the intention of buying a car for his burglar alarm business but due to limited funds had been looking at cars in the £1,500 price range. On his second visit, Alan told the salesman his plans had changed and he picked out a grey £6,000 Ford himself, which the salesman described as a different class of vehicle. Alan was thrilled with the purchase, but Rita Fairclough was furious that he'd blown the money she loaned him to set up his business on a car.
