| - A "magic barrier" is a mechanic used by the spells Energy Barrier and Mana Pylon, both from the Mage's Mana Control discipline. This is not to be confused with Conjurer's Life spell Magic Barrier, which simple reduces the magical damage received by an ally. These magic barriers absorb a fixed amount of damage before breaking apart. The amount of damage dealt to the barrier is equal to what to player would receive if he had no barrier. So the calculation takes into account all evade/block/resist chances and all damage reduction by armor or buffs to attacks before dealing what's left to the barrier. So for example, for a conjurer with both Steel Skin and Energy Barrier cast, the barrier will only take the 10-30% damage left after the 70-90% reduction by Steel Skin. Damage taken by the barrier is seen on the combat log, and over the player's head, as 0 damage. It's a slight weakness therefore that a player can only guess how much of his barrier is left. The strike that finishes the protection will be shown for the amount of damage that gets through to the player. For example if the barrier only had 100 "hp" left and a marksman shoots a 500 damage strike, the mage will loose the barrier, take 400 damage to his health, and the log will show 400 damage. Energy Barrier can be recasted while still active and thus it regains total power, but never stacks. If a player had 500 barrier left and casted Energy Barrier (5) he would have a total of 1000. If a player is under Mana Pylon (5) for 10 seconds he would have accumulated 300 barrier points. Getting hit by 100 would leave the barrier at 200, and it will keep on increasing 30 per second while in the area of effect. Getting hit by 400 would destroy the magic barrier and deal 100 damage. But as long as he remains in the area of effect, he will still receive 30 more barrier points per second.
