The Tamil Nadu Electricity Board (TNEB) (Tamil: தமிழ் நாடு மின்சார வாரியம்)was a statutory body formed on 1 July 1957 under the Electricity Supply Act, 1948 as a successor to the erstwhile Electricity Department of the Government of Madras, that generates, distributes and regulates the electricity supply in the state. The agency came under the authority of the Department of Power. TNEB was the State Transmission Utility and a Licensee as notified by the Government of Tamil Nadu under provision of clause (a) of Section 172 of the Electricity Act, 2003 for the period up to 15 September 2010.

Since 2010, TNEB acts as three companies, TNEB Limited (TNEBL), a holding an administrative company, with two subsidiaries, Tamil Nadu Generation and Distribution Corporation Limited (TANGEDCO) and Tamil Nadu Transmission Corporation Limited (TANTRANSCO).
