Trir was a female of the Race. She was assigned by her government to act as a protocol officer for American diplomats who visited Home aboard the Admiral Peary, and her duties came to include arranging tours of assorted sites of interest throughout the planet. She had never dealt with "Tosevites" before, and found them perplexing, leading to sometimes tense relations with her charges. For example, she found that the Americans were not receptive when she extolled the "greatness" of Race society. Overall, like many of her species, Trir maintained her belief that the Race was superior.

For example, she found that the Americans were not receptive when she extolled the "greatness" of Race society. Overall, like many of her species, Trir maintained her belief that the Race was superior. When she learned about rumors of potential renewing war between the Race and humanity, Trir conceded with the majority of her species that humans must be "put [them] in [their] place." Being part of her people that never been exposed to war, she flippantly treated it without any concerns at all. Sadly, Trir still remained completely ignorant to the fact that the Race was being surpassed by the human race, as demonstrated by the arrival the FTL Commodore Perry. She was angered when humans from the Commodore Perry called the Race and its society "backward". She expressed her complaints to Ttomalss, whom advised her to rethink her own narrow perspective, before she stormed away as she concluded humans were "barbarians".
