- Calvin has very particular preferences when it comes to his bedtime stories; in a rare instance where he did not insist on being read Hamster Huey, he asked that the story be fast-paced and gripping, bereft of romance, and deprived of a moral. These demands exasperate Calvin's father, who either sarcastically wraps up Calvin's story, alters it to intimidate Calvin, makes up his own to lecture him, or simply refuses to read to him.

Calvin and Hobbes also make up their own bedtime stories. Hobbes' stories glorify tigers extensively, one of his stories managing to stretch across pages despite being in verse. Calvin's father refused to read one of these made-up stories on account of its disgusting content.
- Dee-Kal (Deek) pages 'Once upon a time, a beautiful Decepticon princess was playing with her gold ball in the garden when it fell into a well.' Dee-Kal (Deek) pages '"What shall I do? My father will have me executed if I don't have my ball - a present he gave me for my birthday!" A Sharkticon hopped up and said "I will get your ball, if you promise to kiss me! For I am a handsome Sweep who was trapped in this mode by an evil witch, and only a kiss will restore me!"' Dee-Kal (Deek) pages 'The princess was desperate for her ball, so she agreed. And when she had her ball, she ran away without kissing the Sharkticon. But the creature hopped after her and came into the Decepticon castle, shouting that she had broken her promise!' Dee-Kal (Deek) pages 'The king was angry that an ugly creature was making a mess on his carpet, and furious to learn that his daughter had broken her promise. "Kiss the Sharkticon AT ONCE!" he commanded, (just like Galvatron) and so she had no choice.' Dee-Kal (Deek) pages 'Lo and behold! The ugly Sharkticon transformed into a rich and handsome Sweep, who fell on one knee and begged the Decepticon princess to marry him. And she said yes.' Sam (iam) pages: This seems somehow familiar... Dee-Kal (Deek) pages 'The king was delighted and prepared a spectacular wedding. At the ceremony, the king asked the handsome Sweep, "Do you take my daughter to be your lawfully wedded wife?" And the Sweep said, "I do!" and thus she was his wife. And the king said "Daughter, do you take this Sweep to be your lawfully wedded husband?" And she said "No, father, I do not!" and pulled the rope that opened a trap door and fed the Sweep to the Horrorcons in a pit far below.' Dee-Kal (Deek) pages 'And the king and the Decepticon princess lived happily on the Prince's money ever after. Plus nobody would ever know that she had kissed a Sharkticon, and her reputation was safe.' Dee-Kal (Deek) pages 'The End' Dee-Kal (Deek) pages 'Moral of the story - no matter how bad you may think things are, be grateful for what you've got, and *never* trust a Decepticon.' Dee-Kal (Deek) pages 'Was that a good story..?' Sam (iam) pages: Why did the Sweep deserve to be eaten? Dee-Kal (Deek) pages 'Because he was rich, of course. And the king and his daughter wanted his money. But not him.' Sam (iam) pages: Wow. So the King and daughter are thieves. :D Dee-Kal (Deek) pages 'I didn't say it was an Autobot story. o_~ Besides, would you want a husband who was dumb enough to get turned into a Sharkticon?' Dee-Kal (Deek) pages 'Anyway, that's my bedtime story for you. Feel sleepy yet?' Long distance to Sam: Dee-Kal goes for breakfast. You get to bed. Night night. Sam (iam) pages: Night. :)
