| - The first and only child of Victor Malreaux, youngest brother of the Viscount Malreaux, Ersebet was born and raised within the confines of the Malreaux family lands. From birth, she was sheltered from a great deal of the outside world, knowing only the company of her parents and, on occasion, those members of her extended family whom she encountered in the Malreaux libraries. Above all, it was here that she felt most at home, studying in particular the tomes on history and astronomy. It was the girls' mothers' belief that Ersebet was weak in body, so weak that it would be a danger to allow her outside.

As she grew, it seemed that she knew every brick of the Malreaux household by sight – and soon by sound, too. Whilst a child, she complained of nightmares and ghastly things lurking in the corners of her bedroom – yet as she grew, the complaints faded, though the dreams did not. Voices came to her, from within and without, though they were only whispers and barely audible at that. If they wanted to tell her something, she could not hear it, no matter how long she sat in the dark and silence, or how closely she pressed herself to the walls. Still, she read her books and became enchanted with stories such as the tragedy of The Trickster King, wishing that the Edjian Prince would come take her away from the endless rains of Vjun - but no Prince came. The years passed and now a young woman, it was the Trickster King she dreamt of, whose voice she believed she heard. His words echoed in her mind: "Worship me and call me master and all that I have shall be yours, including your kingdom." Yet it was not a kingdom that she desired, but freedom. The Trickster's voice hounded her at every step, every waking hour of the day, until at last she could take it no more. She had to leave Vjun - and yet her parents would not allow it. Though now a grown woman, they feared still for her health, and for the persecution she might face at for her bloodline. She would not be stopped, however, and in a fury pushed her mother to the ground, inadvertently splitting the woman's skull. Victor Malreaux fell to his knees, consumed instantly by grief, and so was no obstacle to his daughters flight. Though she hated to leave her library behind, she knew each book from cover to cover and would doubtless do so until her own dying breath. More important than the library was her freedom, and the chance to escape the ghost of the Trickster King, which she was now almost certain haunted the halls of the Chateau Malreaux. Yet, as she fled to the stars, she found no silence in space. Only the taunts of the voice that never left her.Family
