Full plate armor is a type of body armor that first appeared in ADOM version 1.2.0. Not to be confused with plate mail (a type of chain mail with small embedded plates), full plate armor is a much more advanced, expensive, and (frequently) ornate suit of large, interlocking metal pieces. It completely covers the torso, neck and limbs, and most also cover one's boots. On Earth such suits of armor would typically include interlocked gauntlets and helms (thus encasing the entire body in metal), but in Ancardia they apparently do not.

Desirability
  • For PCs looking to maximise their PV, full plate armor is the ultimate type of armor; 9 extra points from iron armor can make the early game a *lot* easier to survive, and 15 extra points from eternium armor is very significant up until the end of the game. The tradeoff of decreased mobility for increased protection is quite a significant one, though — full plate armor is extremely heavy, brings a large disadvantage to missile attacks and significantly decreases DV. Still, wearing full plate armor is probably worth it for the PV bonuses as PCs can easily work on improving their carrying capacity, archery skills and DV as the game goes on. The weight and imposed stat penalties of the armor decrease as the material gets stronger, anyway.

Iron full plate armor has typical stats of [-6, +9], whilst eternium full plate armor has typical stats of [-3, +15].
