- Toughness (T) is an indication of a creature's ability to resist damage. It is very hard to damage a creature with a high T and relatively easy to damage one with a low T. Like S, T is normally expressed as a number between 1 and 10. For tests, T reflects the character's general constitution. It is used as the basis for saving throws against disease and poison and in situations where a character's general state of health is important.

- Toughness is a passive trait exclusive to miners. It increases your Stamina, with patch 3.0.8, scaling with mining skill level. This is roughly the same bonus to stamina as that given by the crafting professions, making mining very attractive to tanks. The total stamina can of course be increased additionally with Talents, such as Survivalist and Vitality.

- Toughness is a new gameplay stat added in The Lost and Damned. It is basically the combat skill level of fellow members of The Lost MC who travel with Johnny Klebitz, to include Jim Fitzgerald, Clay Simons, and Terry Thorpe. The player can also gain Toughness for his Backup (Terry and Clay) in other missions during normal gameplay. Some missions have two different paths of completion, one without Terry and Clay's interference and one with them as backup.
- Toughness is an approximate characteristic, as not all defensive properties are taken into account. A character's maximum Life, Armor, all resistances (though this uses the average of all resistances, so Toughness for endgame may prove to be different for each resistance), passive skills that reduce all damage taken (such as Blur), and some other modifiers, are what formulate his/her sheet Toughness. However, this does not show all modifiers, such as reduced damage from elites, or the guaranteed 30% damage reduction that the Barbarian, Monk, and Crusader classes possess. A player's Dodging chance, while shown as affecting ingame Toughness, shouldn't be taken for granted, as this defense only works for certain attacks.
