  • Multiplayer refers to more than one person playing a game at the same time in a non-campaign setting. Multiplayer can be conducted using split-screen, System Link, or Xbox Live. In the Halo games, multiplayer has been regarded as a core element to the game's design and a giant part of the success of the Halo franchise. As is the case with virtually every competitive activity in human society, people have tried to cheat while playing Halo. Numerous arguably-unfair practices, such as camping, team-killing, and the Noob Combo, are used for the same reason.

  • The goal of Multiplayer is to collect the most points within the time limit. First, a group of gems appears somewhere in the level. Players then race to pick up the gems to score points. Red gems are worth 1 point, yellow gems are worth 2, and blue gems are worth 5. After all the gems in a group of gems are collected, another group of gems appears somewhere else. This continues until the time runs out, and the player with the highest score is the winner.

  • Multiplayer Mode is a game mode in the Syphon Filter Franchise. It was first introduced in Syphon Filter 2, enabling players to play competitively with friends and family. The mode allowed players to control various characters from protagonists to antagonists and even some "joke characters", most of which were unlockable after performing certain tasks in the main game. In addition to the characters, edited versions of levels from the first Syphon Filter and Syphon Filter 2 were available to play on (with some unlockable like the bonus characters).
  • The second method for scoring points, which was accomplished by grabbing meteorites in either a chain or in multiples, complicates things a bit. These meteorites appear as glowing blue-and-white markers on the ground that would start a score multiplier combo when driven over, which would increase as the player earned additional markers. The developers noted here that after the player hits the first the marker, the following markers are dynamically generated so that they are both nearby and in front of the player's vehicle. These two elements together made for a multiplayer session that was reminiscent of the frantic gameplay found in the developer's previous games. It's also worth noting that the RAGE combat rally demonstration featured the classic Quake III voice announcer.
  • Multiplayer is a major and a core addition to the Mount&Blade series. In Mount&Blade: Warband, it allows the player to fight against other players or bots (computer-generated and -controlled opponents) in a selected map with seven game modes. Mount&Blade: With Fire & Sword also has a multiplayer, which features a new gamemode and completely new maps with the singleplayer factions. Firearms and grenades are available.
  • Hosting, or "running", a server is a complicated process, and it should not be undertaken by individuals with little to no server hosting experience. An alternative for inexperienced individuals is Minecraft Realms where, for a small fee, Minecraft will host a server for the user. Hosting a server that will run smoothly and have a high up-time requires both dedicated hardware and bandwidth. A high quality computer, along with great internet, is sufficient for use as both a host and a computer so long as the server is lightly used.
  • In multiplayer you can play against the CPU or against a friend through the implementation of ad-hoc. When setting up a battle between the player and a computer opponent, many circumstances can be set to alter the battle's outbreak, including the character level of the enemy AI, as well as the AI's difficulty, based on either their tactics, equipment, or both. One can also set the enemy AI's behavior during the battle to make them seem much more human-like (by way of the computer becoming reckless or gentle). For detailed list see : Battle Setup.
  • Multiplayer means having more than one human being playing in a module at the same time. This includes playing through the Official Campaign, Mask of the Betrayer, or other mods from NWVault together. It also can involve people taking their Pen and Paper sessions online. Technically it also applies to Persistent Worlds (PWs), which feature servers that normally run multiplayer modules 24/7. Gaming on PWs can be viewed as a subset of multiplayer, but it is referred to by those PW players as Persistent Worlds almost exclusively.
  • Rise of Nations features a highly customizable multiplayer mode. Up to eight players can play in a game with a variety of modes to choose from, with AI filling spots at the server host's choice. A new feature that was introduced into the game was the ability to use homemade scripts in online play. The scripts are able to be made in the built in script editor, and came with a pre-made script that disallowed silos. On Microsoft Windows Rise of Nations uses the GameSpy matchmaking service, and also works with GameRanger. On Mac OS X, Rise of Nations uses GameRanger as a matchmaking service.
  • Multiplayer (MP) means having more than one person playing in a module at the same time. The original campaign, Shadows of Undrentide campaign, some premium modules (specifically, Witch's Wake, Pirates of the Sword Coast, and Infinite Dungeons) and many free modules from Neverwinter Vault are suitable for this type of play. The Hordes of the Underdark campaign and the other premium modules (ShadowGuard, Kingmaker, and Wyvern Crown of Cormyr) however, are not intended for multiplayer gaming (although the Hordes campaign can be made somewhat multiplayer friendly, see the Campaign Multiplayer Workaround Thread in BioWare's forums — may contain spoilers). Multiplayer can be run over the Internet or locally over a LAN.
  • Multiplayer is a game mode that is available in most of the Civilization games. In this mode, two or more humans play against each other and/or AI opponents on a difficulty level and with game settings of the players' choice. If a multiplayer game includes both human and AI players, the human players take their turns first.
