Captain Joseph F. Carter (September 11, 1842 to April 10, 1922) was an American soldier who fought in the American Civil War. Carter received the country's highest award for bravery during combat, the Medal of Honor, for his action during the Battle of Fort Stedman in Virginia on 25 March 1865. He was honored with the award on 9 July 1891.
