Superstorm Sassy was an extreme hurricane that left devastating effects in Portugal, Spain and Africa. Sassy originated from Winter Storm Goliath moving into the atlantic. Sassy was classified as a tropical depression, and was not expected to strengthen. Oddly enough, it became a tropical storm. the forcast models expected it to die instantly, but one expected it to strengthen. That one was right, and 6 hours later, it was a hurricane, and explosively deepening. Despite its mass effects, Sassy was not retired, and continues to live on as an extratropical cyclone today.

On January 16th, Sassy became a category 5 hurricane, and was forecasted to strike both Portugal and Spain as a devastating storm. Everyone in Spain was evacuated into safety, and Sassy hit as a 155 mph Cat 4 on January 18th, causing thousands of deaths. It then struck Africa, and left devastating destuction even though it was not as strong. Despite its mass effects, Sassy was not retired, and continues to live on as an extratropical cyclone today.
