A sector on a disk was an early method for giving addresses to each physical block of data on a hard disk drive. It is the smallest logical component of a hard drive that can be read or written. Many hard drives have 512-byte sectors. Even if a single byte of data needs to be accessed, the hard drive will read the entire sector containing that data.

  • In all X Universe games, the universe is split into multiple regions of space known as sectors. Each sector is usually situated in orbit of a planet or moon and is full of space stations, asteroids and ships.
  • A sector is a division of space. The United Federation of Planets defined a sector as an approximately 20 light year cube of space. Many sectors were numbered, such as Sector 001, and others were named after prominent object in the sector, such as the Kalandra sector. (Star Trek Encyclopedia) *
  • A sector is an area of space framed by an artificial boundary for political, economic and military organization.
  • The locations in SQ3 occur in a grid of the galaxy (Andromeda or Earnon) that appears to be numbered from 1 to 108 (based on visited sectors in the game).
  • A sector was an area of space delineated by an artificial boundary for political, economic and military organization.
  • A sector is an area of space which typically contain a number of star systems and are typically measured as being 20x20x20 light years in size. Most sectors are assigned numbers as they are charted, however some sectors are assigned names after an important star system in the sector. * See
  • There are two main uses of the term Sector in the Vorkosigan Saga; one was associated with Barrayar; the other with Komarr.
  • There appear to be two systems for naming sectors, one for inhabited sectors, one for uninhabited sectors. The UNSC Navy designates sectors as "FLEETCOM Sector (number)" to denote the division of command the sector's inhabitants fall under. Other sectors are simply designated "Sector (letter)-(three numbers)."
  • The surface of planetary bodies were gridded into sectors. (Star Trek III: The Search for Spock; Star Trek Into Darkness) In stellar cartography, a sector, which was referred to as a star sector or space sector, was a gridded region within the Milky Way Galaxy. Sectors were composed of an area and volume encompassing several light years and typically contained several star systems. A group of sectors was called a sector block, which was located in a quadrant. The sector system and their numbering was used by United Earth, Vulcans, and other spacefaring races at least by the 22nd century. In 2369, the extragalactic space was not divided into sectors, and ships that were sent on deep space cartography missions were listed as being in extragalactic space. (TNG: "Aquiel" ; ENT: "Broken Bow", "
  • The sector that includes the center of the Milky Way is called the Zero Sector. The central point of the Zero Sector lies along a straight line that connects to the point at the center of the universe, or the point from which all galaxies are expanding. Other sectors are drawn in a whirlpool fashion radiating out from this line starting with the Alpha Sector, then the Beta, and so on. The center of the galaxy is much thicker than the surrounding areas, so the seven sectors from Zero to Zeta are also divided vertically, unlike the other sectors. In this case, the sectors above and below the central sectors have either a + (plus) or a - (minus) affixed to the end of each sector name, in order to differentiate them from the central sectors.
  • A Sector is an Imperial division of space that is one of the constituent territorial units of a Segmentum of the Milky Way Galaxy. The size of a sector varies according to local demands and stellar density. A typical sector might encompass 7 million cubic light years, equivalent to a cube with sides almost 200 light years long. Sectors are divided into sub-sectors, usually comprising between 2 and 8 star systems within a 10 light year radius (some may encompass more systems - others only 1). This size is governed by the practical patrol ranges of Imperial starships. Because sub-sectors are divisions of worlds (rather than volumes of space) there are vast numbers of star systems within each sector which do not fall with in a sub-sector. These are referred to as inter-sectors - and are commo
  • A Sector was a division of galactic territory used by the Galactic Republic and its successor state, the Galactic Empire, for the purposes of political, economic and military organization. Under Republic terminology, a Sector was defined as having a maximum of fifty inhabited star systems. Many sectors grew larger than intended, however, due to the rapid galactic expansion and colonization beginning around 5,000 BBY. From SW1ki, a Wikia wiki.
  • A sector is an area referenced by sidedefs on the linedefs. Sectors should be closed areas, meaning that all the sidedefs that reference a particular sector should make up a closed shape. Unclosed sectors can be used for a few special effects, but under some circumstances they can lead to undesirable results (including crashes). A sector does not have to be a single polygon. For instance, two squares can be separate and non-contiguous, but still be part of the same sector. A sector entry specifies the following: Ceiling flat - Name of the flat (texture) used on the ceiling of the sector.

  • A method for specifying the location of objects within the Milky Way, evenly dividing the galaxy into 25 sections as viewed from "above." (Due to the spiral shape of the galaxy, the periphery has only six sectors.) Each sector is an equally-sized hexagonal prism, lined up with the others in an ordered fashion. The central sector is named Sector 0 (zero), and the remaining sectors are assigned Greek alphabet letters in order following a spiral pattern, with Sector Alpha lying on a line joining the center of Sector 0 with the center of the universe. Since the center of the galaxy is thicker than the edges, the central seven sectors (Sector 0 through Sector Zeta) are divided into upper, central, and lower parts; the upper and lower zones are indicated with a + (plus) or - (minus) following th
