| - In "The Human Factor", a police artist produces a composite sketch of the suspect in a murder case. To the surprise of Det. Nick Knight the result looks exactly like Janette, a vampire who had left Toronto months earlier. At the beginning of Season Three, Nick suddenly learned that Janette had left Toronto without telling him. She went to Montreal, where she fell in love with an arson investigator, Robert McDonagh. After he was murdered, she returned to Toronto to seek revenge. It is indeed she who has murdered Mario Larouche, whom she correctly believes is Robert's killer. Unbeknownst to her, though, she is spotted leaving his room by a girl whom he has picked up at a nightclub. It is possible, therefore, for a police artist to consult with the witness and, using a computer program, produce a detailed sketch of the appearance of the woman believed to be the murderer. Nick shows this sketch to LaCroix, who no more than admits the possibility of a resemblance. LaCroix is sure that Janette cannot be in Toronto since he cannot sense her presence—not realizing that she became mortal after Robert was murdered. Nick's partner, Det. Tracy Vetter, shows the sketch to Peggy Bolger, a relative of Robert's, who identifies the suspect as a woman whom she knows as Janette de Brabant, the guardian of Robert's son, Patrick. Janette had dropped off Patrick with Peggy; and he confirms the identification, showing Tracy a photograph of Janette.
