It was meant to be a proof of theory, but was such an exiquisite piece of coding, he couldn't bring himself to destroy it, the way he knew he should. It passes through him literally when he swallows the chip and is then tricked by Verbanski into taking a laxative, to speed things along. Colin seems to have survived his misadventures, and is not mentioned as being injured or in custody when the affair eventually blows over.
