The Secure Storage Area (often shortened to the "Secure Area") is an area of the New York Museum of Natural History where the most valuable and rare artifacts are stored. It is located in the lower level of the museum, adjacent to one or more entrances to the Old Basement. One of the hallways leading from a lower-level courtyard to the Secure Area is lined with Fremont Ellis murals that formerly hung in the Hall of the Southwest. Inside the Secure Storage Area are hallways lined with vaults with large combination locks.
