Turner's teaching methods were often questionable, but they have always brought desired results and taught the characters many valuable lessons.

Turner is calm under fire, intelligent and level headed, Admiral Turner trained under Commander Helena Cain as her X.O. aboard the Pegasus for two years, absorbing her brilliant tactical abilities while keeping a command style all his own. He is fair and tends listen to those under his command. A consummate professional, he does his job with little flash or ceremony and prefers to let his actions speak for him. His tall, dark stature and quiet, yet powerfully commanding presence are at both times comforting to those who follow him, and un-nerving to those who stand against him. He also has a strong competitive streak in him. He competed in the Colonial Martial Olympiad three times, winning medals for his swordsmanship. At the opening of Episode One he is the rank of Commander and commanding officer of the Battlestar Prometheus. This however cost him his marriage.

He is mostly interested in Food, Money, and Entertainment. Strangely, Jonathan recognizes Lindsay Go as his mother, and she recognizes him as her son. However these relationships can only be viewed in the game files, as they have no relation to one another when Exotic Destinations is associated with the main neighborhood. The reason for this relationship is unexplained, but there are a few other Sims from Exotic Destinations that have these sorts of quirks.

In one episode, we learn that Jonathan's parents were rich, but he decided to run away in order to fulfill his dreams of becoming a teacher. Throughout the time he appears in the show, Turner develops a strong relationship with the main characters, particularly Shawn Hunter, who lives with him for a brief amount of time while his dad is away. He was a credited as a regular during season 2-4, but he appeared only sporadically during season 4 and was credited with a guest appearance in the series finale, but appeared only via flashbacks. (His final real appearance was in Cult Fiction). He reappeared in the Girl Meets World episodes Girl Meets The New Teacher, Girl Meets Creativity and Girl Meets Goodbye.
