| - Republic of Quebec (English pronunciation: /kəˈbɛk/ or /kwɨˈbɛk/; French: République du Québec [keˈbɛk]) is a country located in northern North America. It is bordered to the west by the Canada, James Bay and Hudson Bay; Hudson Strait and Ungava Bay to the north; Canadian provinces of Newfoundland and Labrador, New Brunswick to the east; and United States of America to the south. Quebec is the eighth most populous country in North America, and the second lowest in density. Most inhabitants live in urban areas near the Saint Lawrence River between Montreal and Quebec City, the capital. English-speaking communities and English-language institutions are concentrated in the west of the island of Montreal but are also significantly present in the Outaouais, the Eastern Townships, and Gaspé regions. The Nord-du-Québec region, occupying the northern half of the province, is sparsely populated and inhabited primarily by Aboriginal peoples. Quebec, along the Republic of Haiti, are the only two French speaking countries in North America.
