The Leafs had lost a lot of talent to the World Hockey Association in 1972, and Lundrigan was given a chance with the NHL team. He scored 2 goals and 8 assists in 1972-73. He was demoted to the Oklahoma City Blazers the next season as rookies Borje Salming and Ian Turnbull joined the Leafs. The Washington Capitals claimed him in the 1974 NHL Expansion Draft. Lundrigan played 3 games for the Capitals in 1974-75 and spent most of the season in the minors. He retired at the end of that season. In 1976 he made a one-year comeback with the team he had started with - the Corner Brook Royals. In the NHL he played in 52 games and scored 2 goals and 8 assists.
