On a number of occasions I have had legitimate Wookieepedians email me to complain that they have been blocked for no reason - as a result of Admins blocking vandals with similar IP addresses. Sometimes this isn't a big deal - we unblock the offending address and the Wookieepedian is able to edit again, and the vandal usually does not return. Sometimes however the offender keeps returning to vandalize the site. As is the case with User:62.253.64.14, whose bans are unfortunately blocking User:HavetStorm from editing. --Azizlight 02:34, 30 March 2006 (UTC)

  • On a number of occasions I have had legitimate Wookieepedians email me to complain that they have been blocked for no reason - as a result of Admins blocking vandals with similar IP addresses. I've unblocked Havet a couple of times already, and unfortunately he is currently banned again. I can imagine how frustrating this must be for him. I've talked briefly about this with StarNeptune and Sikon, and I think I remember AOL's proxy system being discussed somewhere too. Just thought I'd bring the issue out into the open. I can see the benefit of blocking entire IP addresses and ranges, but we really need some sort of "Safe List" function that prevents legitimate Wookieepedians from being blocked. Is this something we can discuss with Angela, as a request to modify the software? Or is that impossible? --Azizlight 02:34, 30 March 2006 (UTC) Can Havet try to go through a proxy server like the-cloak.com since that would allow the vandals IP to be blocked. Or maybe he could change the subnet mask. Phillowe88 13:53, 2 April 2006 (UTC) * I'm not positive, but I think Wikia denies proxy connections across the board. RMF 19:16, 2 April 2006 (UTC)
