In December 2005, the Deputy Prime Minister hosted an Informal Council on Sustainable Communities, under the UK's Presidency of the European Union, in Bristol. Ministers endorsed the 'Bristol Accord' - a new framework for EU Governments to deliver sustainable communties for Europe’s 450 million citizens. Ministers also agreed to a UK-led programme of work to foster generic 'place-making' skills - for which the Academy for Sustainable Communities leads on behalf of the UK government and in cooperation with URBACT.
