Francis Bennett-Goldney (1865, Moseley - 1918, Brest), born Francis Evans,[citation needed] was the Independent Unionist Member of Parliament (MP) for Canterbury and mayor of Canterbury 1906-1911, who died in World War I. As a Major in the Royal Army Service Corps he died 27 July 1918 in an American hospital in Brest from injuries sustained in a motor-car accident and is buried at St Germain-en-Laye, near Paris. He was the Assistant Military Attaché to the British Embassy in Paris.
