Galenas, or pipe-weed, is a form of tobacco that grows in Middle-earth. Hobbits in particular are known for their love of the art of smoking and were the first people to develop galenas into the "true pipe-weed" used for smoking. This strain was developed by Tobold "Old Toby" Hornblower in Shire Year 1070. In Gondor, galenas is grown simply for the sweet smell of its flowers.
