He earned two more top-fives with a 4th place at Salisbury and a 5th at Columbia, and two more top-ten finishes at Bowman-Gray in August and Myrtle Beach. For the August Bowman-Gray event, Dunn also sat on the pole, his best career qualifying effort. Despite his successes, Dunn stepped it down to just a solo appearance during the 1959 season, competing at Fayetteville. It was another smooth afternoon for the driver, staying out of trouble to collect a solid 11th place finish. Dunn's final career race then came back at Bowman-Gray in early 1962. Despite his hiatus from the sport, Dunn was still rock solid at the track. Qualifying 7th, Dunn completed every single lap of the race and was rewarded with a 4th place finish to close out his career.
