| - Cancer is terrible, but not completely "incurable." Many patients have fought cancer and survived. Current experiments have had various results in defeating cancer, but are not mainstream.
HPV is now the most common sexually transmitted disease in the United States. The virus infects over half the American population and causes nearly five thousand women to die each year from cervical cancer; the Centers for Disease Control estimates that more the two hundred thousand die worldwide. We now have a vaccine for HPV that appears to be both safe and effective. The vaccine produced 100 percent immunity in the six thousand women who received it as part of a clinical trial. And yet, Christian conservatives in our government have resisted a vaccination program on the grounds that HPV is a valuable impediment to premarital sex. These pious men and women want to preserve cervical cancer as an incentive toward abstinence, even if it sacrifices the lives of thousands of women each year. This is not just insane, it is downright evil.
- Ray is just as guilty of idolatry as any Christian he points his finger at.
Ray says that he is a "genuine" or "true" Christian, and yet he seems to be interested in one thing: money. He lives in a multi-million dollar house in Southern California, he constantly writes books that always repeat the same old material , and he frequently asks for lots of donations before releasing FREE materials.
- This comment by Lincoln is said to have originated when some former slaves in Maryland presented Lincoln with a gift of a Bible. In response to the reported speech in Maryland, Lincoln's partner the Hon. William H. Herndon remarked "I am aware of the fraud committed on Mr. Lincoln in reporting some insane remarks supposed to have been made by him, in 1864, on the presentation of a Bible to him by the colored people of Baltimore. No sane man ever uttered such folly, and no sane man will ever believe it."
- "...anything but ourselves." WTF do you mean "anything but ourselves"!? Mankind DOES contribute to global warming, we take responsibility, which is why governments across the globe are working to reduce our carbon footprint. We can help counter it, and that is what we are striving for, and we we do this by taking actual action and not resorting to prayer.
WE HUMANS are the ones releasing toxic gases, not alligators or penguins. Man-made incendiaries constantly release vast amounts of toxic gases into the atmosphere everyday. Such man-made refineries lead to disasters like acid rain, which destroy forests.
Humans are the ones who put lead in our gasoline, which largely contributed to the destruction of the ozone layer. We finally cut lead from our gas when we realized how harmful it was, BECAUSE we realized we were the problem. We were to blame, and we did not place that blame on a colony of ants or the Flying Spaghetti Monster. No, we took the blame. How dare Kirk Cameron state that we do not take the responsibility for man-made disasters and put the blame on some magic man.
"Mother Nature " Oh that's rich. Coming from a guy who says "we are made in his image" but never explains it. Mother Nature is not a person or a she, more of a metaphor. The earth is fertile and is the bringer of life, so humans often refer to the earth in female terms. But this does not mean that people who use such terms think of the earth as a female character.
- Care to explain what is this "moral filth" that we tell our kids is okay?
- Listen now to these wise words from Abraham Lincoln,
*"The Bible is not my book nor Christianity my profession."- Abraham Lincoln, quoted by Joseph Lewis in "Lincoln the Freethinker"
*"What is to be, will be, and no prayers of ours can arrest the decree." - Abraham Lincoln, quoted by Mary Todd Lincoln in William Herndon's Religion of Lincoln, quoted from Franklin Steiner, The Religious Beleifs of Our Presidents, p. 118
*"My earlier views of the unsoundness of the Christian scheme of salvation and the human origin of the scriptures, have become clearer and stronger with advancing years and I see no reason for thinking I shall ever change them." - Abraham Lincoln, to Judge J S Wakefield, after Willie Lincoln's death , quoted by Joseph Lewis in "Lincoln the Freethinker," also appearing in Remsburg's "Six Historic Americans"
For more quotes on Lincoln, see here.
- And I have the freedom to say this guy is full of it. Americans love freedom, and we will never forget the men who died to give us that right.
- The number of miscarriages heavily outnumber abortions every year. The Bible says that God has recorded everyone's lives and is with us when we are conceived. And yet, he allows people to die in miscarriage - this means that God is not pro-life.
- There is no Commandment that say you shall not lie. Period. The Commandment says do not bear false witness against your neighbor - this is referring to misrepresenting someone in court, it does not outlaw lying overall.
- History shows that America thrived on humanist grounds. The same people who honored God enslaved hundreds of thousands of Africans, even some of the Founding Fathers owned slaves.
Why are there hurricanes? Could be that it is a natural phenomenon that would happen with or without America. Why are there an increase in hurricanes, the biggest answer is global warming - the warming of the seas increases water vapor and thus more hurricanes. Why is this happening to America, it could be that America is a prime producer in carbon dioxide, thus contributing to global warming.
Why are there high rates of cancer in America, but not in Southeast Asia where they do not worship God. Perhaps it is because how we eat. It is no doubt that America has an obese problem and consumes vast amounts of meat. Studies show that meat contributes to heart disease, diabetes, and can lead to cancer. People in southeast Asia mainly eat vegetables, they have a very green diet, and they rarely encounter anyone who gets cancer or heart disease. Maybe another contribute to cancer in America are the vast numbers of oil refineries - EPA documents show that by every oil refinery there is a "cancer alley" where rates of cancer skyrocket unlike anywhere else.
- This Commandment is just stupid. Coveting is what drives capitalism. In fact, the main reason why Europeans first settled on America soil was in search of profit and riches for businesses back in Europe. As long as America stays America, coveting will be apart of it. Basically, America from the start has told God to get lost and take his Commandments with him.
- Perhaps it is due to our consumption of water.
- You know, in several neurologist and psychologist books, it comes clear that there is a aspect to our brains that makes things appear real. Did you also know that sociologists show that social well-being is at it highest when people engage in community activities and live healthy lifestyles?
For that matter, did you know that in Dianetics, our social well-being is tied to our levels of thetans in our bodies. There is a direct correlation that lower levels of thetans makes people happier, and higher levels of thetans resulted in chaotic and unhappy depressed people. American society is full of chaos and depressed people. Therefore, Dianetics is true and we all must audit ourselves from our thetans to become happy. Yes, we know that is bullshit, exactly for the same reasons Evan's piece here is bullshit. Reflecting your favorite texts on reality and spotting a similarity does not mean that correlation means causation. If the Bible or Koran says that nations will struggle, that does not mean that the Bible or Koran are true. Incidentally in the past Americans went to church more often but also comitted genocide against Native Americans. Were they really nearer to Christian values then than they are today? If they were at least part of Christian values are very bad.
- Where did God say this would be a plague?
- Using God's name as a cuss word is NOT blaspheme. take God's name in vain means taking his actual name under a false oath or a un-kept promise. Students are free to pray on campus to whatever deity they wish, but schools cannot sanction one religion over the other or even religion in general. How would Ray and Kirk feel if schools mandated that kids bow towards Mecca five times a day? They would be infuriated, and rightly so. Schools cannot and must not sanction religion, and thus protect the Establishment Clause. It is the same with the Ten Commandments. Our laws are not based on the Bible, rather many of our laws go contrary to what the Bible demands. Finally, we teach our students facts. It is a fact that evolution happens; that biodiversity and complexity does increase, that both occur naturally only by evolutionary means.
It is a fact that alleles vary with increasing distinction in reproductive populations and that these are accelerated in genetically isolated groups.
It is a fact that natural selection, sexual selection, and genetic drift have all been proven to have predictable effect in guiding this variance.
It is a fact that significant beneficial mutations do occur and are inherited by descendant groups, and that multiple independent sets of biological markers exist to trace these lineages backwards over many generations.
It is a fact that birds are a subset of dinosaurs the same way humans are a subset of apes, primates, eutherian mammals, and vertebrate deuterostome animals.
It is a fact that the collective genome of all animals has been traced to its most basal form, and that those forms are also indicated by comparative morphology, physiology, and embryological development.
It is a fact that everything on earth has definite relatives either living nearby or evident in the fossil record.
It is a fact that the fossil record holds hundreds of definitely transitional species even according to it’s strictest definition, and that both microevolution and macroevolution have been directly-observed.
Evolution is a fact! Whether Ray likes it or not, humans are evolved apes. We are apes definitely and definitively. Are we made in the image of God? Since God does not exist then the answer is simply no, we are not made in some so-called image. Hypothetically, if there was a creator who made us in it's image, then the creator is a monkey.
- And Christians are the number one group that will likely have a divorce, with atheists being the least likely.
- Victory for enemies? Since when was America overthrown after the American Revolution? Not once. America still stands. Yes, America has been in a lot of wars, and both sides achieve several victories, but America has never been taken over by a foreign nation. America lost several wars, such as Vietnam, but America still remains.
Also, why should we put our care into the hands of some divine being to take care for us instead of taking responsibility and solving the problems ourselves?
- This is the same John Adams who wrote and signed the Treaty of Tripoli, which says clearly "The united States are in no way founded upon the Christian religion." Enough said.
- Do you really want to make your case by showing theists like Glenn Beck?
- Lets get the record straight; the phrase "under God" was put in place in the 1950's in response to the rise in fear of communism.
Basically, Evans here is called for a strict theocracy, where God is included in every decision . All one has to do to see that this is a very bad idea is look at modern day Iran or the Christian Dark Ages, the Salem Witch Trials or even the continual burning of witches in Africa.
Does Evans have any statistics or data to show that after 9/11 the morality of America turned in favor of the Christian worldview that eventually died down to the old ways sometime afterward?
- Did you know the largest consumers of pornography are conservatives and religious people? A study showed that states with the highest levels of conservatism and religious beliefs had the highest consumption of pornography. The study also showed that states where gay marriage remained illegal had an increase percentage in porn consumption.
- "I see the number of ...." What numbers and statistics Kennedy is seeing is a mystery. According to the actual statistics, the populations of Christians in America are dropping. The population of secularists, non-religionists, and atheists and agnostics have doubled in the last decade . In Europe, Christianity is also dying - particularly due to the sex scandal in the churches . Incidents are happening like this all around the world, with religion slowly dying.
- When America gets right with Krishna, we can hope that he could heal our land. You can hope all you like that your imaginary friend will help a whole nation, but you have no guarantee. You know what does guarantee change.. taking action. that is why people say that two working hands are far better than a million pair of hands clasped in prayer.
- Kirk did as much research on this as he does for the theory of evolution. Why do so many cows die? Perhaps it is how we treat them and feed them. For instance, we fatten chickens so much that they cannot stand and often break their legs when they try, thus they end up dying and are discarded. We feed cows corn, which is not what they are evolved to eat, as a result they end up getting very sick.
- We created these problems, we can fix them. We do not need to sit on the sidelines and wait for some magic man to help us.
What and where is Ray's source for Kennedy's quote? If she believed she did everything she could to live long, but she had to be out of her mind to believe that she could escape death entirely. She smoked heavily and could not have done everything right. http://www.medpedia.com/news_analysis/11-Addiction-Inbox/entries/53699-When-Presidents-Smoke There are external factors that could contribute to the shortening of a persons life that is not in their control, such as pollution or radioactivity.
- "...whatever nation honors God, God will honor that nation." Secular nations who don't honor God seem to be fairing much better than nations who "honor" God. Sweden, Japan and Denmark are doing pretty well without God. Seems the facts don't agree with Barton; if there is a God, he seems to honor nations who don't honor him.
- Why is there no source provided... because George Washington NEVER said this. There is no actual record of such a statement ever having been made by Washington. ReligiousTolerance explains clearly why this is.http://www.religioustolerance.org/badquotes.htm. Either Ray Comfort is just a poor person who fell for this lie, or if he did do any research he did not do it properly.
- Since the Prologue to this program is not included, the timing will be left out. Bear in mind, everything that is presented and said is arranged in proper order.
- Why blame this on a supernatural figure when we already know why we have this problem. The debt is not some divine curse, it is a disaster made by selfish, greedy human beings who want more for themselves and less for everyone else.
- If in future things go well for the United States that will be because more Americans have been brought into a relationship with Christ. If things go badly that will be because of the sin which the rest do. Either way Kennedy, Comfort and the others can fit things to their evangelist position.
- It turns out that Patrick Henry probably never said this. At least, nobody has been able to locate it in any of his surviving papers. It is almost certainly a forgery.
- Playing sad music does not give any weight to your arguments. For the record, Ray does not even understand his own Bible and misrepresents what the Commandments actually say.
- A lot of absolute statements here regarding to history, all based more on pride than actual historical sources.
Are we the freest nation in history? If freedom means anything, it is the ability to do what you wish without government restrictions. America may have a lot of freedoms, but many Americans would argue that they are still not free. Bear in mind America has adopted new freedoms for its citizens over the years, such as the freedom of African Americans and womens suffrage. Still, are we the freest? Some may point to other tribal cultures, where its people enjoyed close to no restrictions.
Is America happy? Not really, if the statistics are anything to go by.
- All these natural phenomenons happen globally all throughout history. Is it hard to believe that the men who wrote the Bible would say hey, if you don't accept my views, shit will happen? And of all the things that the authors could have listed, they listed natural phenomenons that happen regardless of how religious a nation is. Instead of saying the populations skin will start turning purple, they predicted earthquakes - a phenomenon that will constantly continue to the day the Earth is no more and will strike every nation until then. Basically, it is a circular system. If the whole nation was Christian, then they declare success and everything should be fine. However, if there are still disasters, they say just pray harder. When will people just self-examine themselves and their beliefs like this and just say "this is all bollocks"?
